Visiting Thuma

Visit Thuma

We have a camping site and basic cooking, shower and toilet facilities. If you want to spend a night in Thuma, please bring your own camping equipment, food and drinks.

Main project of the Wildlife Action Group is the "Thuma Forest Reserve Eco-system Rehabilitation Project". The objective of the Thuma Project is to protect its flora and fauna and to restore its ecological balance in co-operation with the communities around Thuma. When visiting Malawi, the warm heart of Africa, it is hard not to pass Thuma Forest Reserve: it is located only 80 kilometers from Lilongwe, the capital of Malawi, along the road towards the lakeshore of Lake Malawi.

The landscape of Thuma Forest Reserve lends itself perfectly to walking safaris: from an one hour bush walk in the vicinity of the camp up to two or three days hiking trips through the reserve. You will enjoy the landscape, the wildlife, you can visit the remains of an old colonial hospital or visit a cave with ancient rock paintings, climb Thuma Mountain, and, during the rainy and beginning of the dry season, you can take a refreshing dip in one of the many crystal clear streams in Thuma. During your walks you will be accompanied by members of our staff.
